We’ve all seen the quote “it’s the little things in life”. I grew up hearing it, but never really understood the meaning.
It was not until reflecting on my travels that I fully grasped the six word saying. This past week, I missed it a ton – traveling that is. And it hasn’t been the big things running through my mind, it is the small stuff…
It is the little moments of happiness that I miss the most.
Don’t get me wrong, the big stuff comes to my mind – the long nights, the excursions, the friends I made. But the little moments are what get me. They take me back to an exact second in time, where my smile grew a little bigger and my eyes twinkled in admiration. It’s the small stuff that opened my eyes to how insanely wonderful our world is.
So, what do these little moments look like?
It’s the view from bed.
It’s the extra scoop of Nutella on my gelato.
It’s the 6:00 am sunrise.
It’s the detailed architecture.
It’s the animal encounters.
It’s the vibrant doors.
It’s the fifty shades of pink when the sunsets.
It’s the walk in the park.
It’s the ground from miles up.
It’s all of these things that have given me an incurable case of wanderlust. And I never want to forget the way that these moments made me feel – these little things, that made being thousands of miles away from home worth it.
Wherever you are in life, I encourage you to look for the little moments. Get excited about them. The smile from a stranger. The hot drink on a cold day. The way the clouds make an animal if you look at them from the just the right angle.
